White Fillings

What Is A White Filling?

A composite filling material matching your existing tooth colour is bonded to your tooth to repair a missing portion. This process is great for broken front teeth as an alternative to a crown.A White Filling (composite filling) is a tooth coloured plastic and glass mixture used to restore decayed teeth. Composites are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the colour of the teeth and or the appearance of the teeth.

How Is A White Filling Placed?

Following preparation, the white filling material is placed in the tooth in increments and is then set to harden using a specialized light, this process is then repeated until the tooth has been filled. When the filling is finished your dentist will shape the composite to fit the tooth and to make sure your biting down properly. Your dentist will then polish the composite to prevent staining and early wear.

What Are The Advantages?

Aesthetics are the main advantage of composites, since dentists can blend shades to create a colour nearly identical to that of the actual tooth. Composites bond to the tooth to support the remaining tooth structure, which helps to prevent breakage and insulate the tooth from excessive temperature change.

Why should I consider white fillings?

White fillings are very natural looking. Many people are more conscious about the way they look, so they don’t want silver fillings that show when they laugh or smile.

Are white fillings expensive?

Costs can vary, it depends on the size of the tooth and the type of filling material used. Costs may also vary from region to region, your dental team will be able to give you a printed estimate of the cost before you agree to treatment.
