Malcolm John Strang – Dentist B.D.S. (1979, U. Glasgow)

 malcom-dentist-ayr-dental-studioI qualified and graduated form Glasgow University in 1979, and immediately took up an associate position in a practice in Inverness which provided treatment for patients from the remote and outlying areas of the Highlands and Islands.
Many of these patients were in need of much dental care and treatment and full mouth rehabilitaion, thus introducing me to significant volumes of restorative dentistry at an early stage in my career.
I have maintained a keen interest in restorative dentistry, aesthetic dentistry and endodontics.
In addition, due to the lack of oral surgery facilities at Raigmore Hospital, it was necessary to carry out many oral surgical procedures oneself which – given a different geographical location – may well have been referred.
I continue to maintain a keen interest in oral surgery, and continue to do most surgical procedures in practice.
The practice provided much treatment under sedation ( both intravenous and inhalation sedation) – this enabled me from an early stage to gain experience of sedation, and I have used sedation for apprehensive patients ever since.
I attended the “SAAD” sedation courses, and have attended many sedation courses over the years.
In addition, I developed a keen interest in hypnosis, and have attended many hypnosis courses and conferences, and have been a member of the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis since 1982.
I use hypnosis on its own, or in combination with inhalation sedation, to help with the management of anxious / phobic patients.
In 1984 I built up a practice from scratch firstly as an associate, and then from 1990 to  2010 as owner / principal
thus developing my patient management skills, and the consideration of practice goodwill enhancement.
I am now based in Carluke Dental Studio four days per week (Tuesday to Friday) and am always keen to see apprhensive patients for whom sedation would help to overcome their anxiety.
